What does a urologist treat?
A urologist diagnoses and treats conditions of the urinary tract – the kidneys, bladder and urethra – as well as the male reproductive organs.
Dr van den Heever sees patients for prostate concerns, kidney stones, bladder and urinary symptoms, urological cancers, male sexual health and vasectomy.
Do I need a referral?
If you have been referred by your GP or another doctor, please bring the referral letter to your first appointment.
If you are unsure whether your medical aid requires a referral, call the rooms on 021 870 1293 and the team will help you.
What should I bring to my first appointment?
Please arrive 15 minutes early to complete the necessary forms. Where applicable, bring your referral letter, a list of all your current medication, and copies of any relevant blood tests or X-rays.
You may also be asked to give a urine sample.
What is robotic surgery, and is it right for me?
For suitable patients, Dr van den Heever uses the da Vinci® Surgical System to perform urological surgery through small incisions, with enhanced vision and precise control. The system does not operate independently – Dr van den Heever controls the surgical instruments throughout.
Whether robotic surgery is appropriate depends on your condition, and will be discussed with you during your consultation.
